In cases of a crisis, such as natural disasters, a large number of injured civilians are admitted to health care points and require immediate treatment. The healthcare professionals face in a very short time the challenge to perform an accurate diagnosis and proceed with the appropriate treatment (procedures, administering medications etc.). The lack of timely access to patients’ medical records could lead to increasing the diagnosis time and even worse proceeding with a wrong treatment which can potentially be deadly for the patient (e.g. administering a medication that can cause side-effects, such as an allergy reaction).

In the case of crisis, the healthcare professionals can obtain instant access to the medical information of the patient, thus enabling them to perform an accurate and timely diagnosis and proceed with the appropriate treatment procedures. The medical information is presented in the form of Patient Summary which comprises key elements of a person’s health profile such as critical problems and conditions, allergies, medication, vaccinations, aiming to serve as a window to a person’s health prior to the disaster
