GNOMON tests EU wallet health credentials at the IHE Plugathon in Brussels

THESSALONIKI, 03.04.2026 – What does it take for a vaccination record on a citizen’s phone to be trusted in another country? GNOMON brought that question to Brussels, where health IT implementers met at the IHE-Europe Plugathon from 23 to 27 March to test how well their systems work together.

As a partner in myHealth@myHands, the EU co-funded project on citizens’ access to their own health data, GNOMON took part in the week’s Plugathon on the European Health Data Space (EHDS). There, GNOMON’s team tested the two steps on which the project’s approach rests: issuing health credentials to the EU Digital Identity Wallet, and presenting them from it.

A conversation across the Atlantic

The week also looked beyond Europe. GNOMON joined a session with the Pan-American Highway for Digital Health (PH4H), a joint initiative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). PH4H supports the secure, interoperable exchange of health information within and between countries of the Americas, and counts interoperable digital yellow fever vaccination certificates among its practical examples.

With vaccination records high on both agendas, GNOMON built its presentation around the project’s vaccination card, showing how the card is issued into the EU Digital Identity Wallet and shared only when the citizen chooses. Proving vaccination status abroad, whether for travel, study or work, is a need Europe and the Americas have in common, and comparing approaches early helps both regions build services that people can trust.

For GNOMON, the week in Brussels was a practical test of its work in myHealth@myHands. The project connects MyHealth@EU, which already carries patient summaries and prescriptions between EU countries, to the EU Digital Identity Wallet, putting people in charge of their own health information. GNOMON brings its experience with the infrastructure behind the National Contact Points for eHealth, through which countries connect to MyHealth@EU, and helps write the rulebooks, the specifications that define the wallet’s health credentials, including the Vaccination Card.
